Beloved Quail Creek matriarch Ruth McDermott celebrated her 85th birthday with pizazz with nearly 100 guests, including her family and close friends. Ruth’s birthday was Aug. 13, but the surprise celebration honoring the 26-year resident was held Aug. 14 in the Madera Clubhouse Ballroom. Family members from Washington state and the Phoenix area joined in along with Quail Creek staff and community friends. Chef Aris and his staff served a fabulous two-course meal, and Grace Ormand, Quail Creek’s talented pastry chef, created a beautifully decorated lemon-filled cake.
Jack Davis shared a touching champagne toast, while Ruth’s brother, Charlie Nichols, told stories of their childhood. Mike Taylor served as master of ceremonies for the evening, sharing lovely sentiments and stories honoring Ruth. Entertainers Khris Dodge and Nick Gallardo performed a medley of songs weaving through important dates in Ruth’s life. The night was a joyful celebration of one of our community’s most esteemed residents. Happy birthday, Ruth McDermott! May you have many more!
