“Girls Just Want to Have Fun” ladies golf event

What happens when you create golf threesomes of QCLGA members, Lady Niners and Lady Putters? You get lots of fun! On January 22, members of the QCLGA, Niners and Putters formed threesomes for a very different golf event. Played on our Coyote and Roadrunner Courses, our QCLGA members and Niners alternated shots from tee box to green, then left the putting to—the Putters! It was a wonderful mixer for our ladies golfing groups and particularly exciting to get our Putters out on the golf course!

Using handicap indices for the QCLGA and Niner members to create four flights, the event committee found a way to structure a fun yet competitive event! Despite a one hour frost delay and a chilly, blustery day, all the teams finished their rounds, then met for the 19th hole at the Madera Clubhouse for lunch, conversation and announcement of the winners by Head Golf Pro Joel Jaress.

And the flight winners were from the Quirky Queens flight: 1st place Chris Laxague, Pat Crane and Margaret Pahoresky; 2nd place Sonia Heeren, Ann Easterling and Sylvia Butler; 3rd place Jan Topolski, Mary Jo Schupmann and Frieda Hyles. From the Dashing Dames flight, winners were: 1st place Pat Tillapaugh, Sherry Gall and Lou Moultrie; 2nd place Linda Brackett, Irene Broderick and Sally Newton; 3rd place Lynn Thomas, Barbara Dawes and Freda Brown-Caldwell. From the Perky Princesses flight winners were: 1st place Althea Critchlow, Bonnie Smith and Nancy McDaniel; 2nd place Kris Weinberg, Sue Gunter and Kaye Siblik; 3rd place Beth Davis, Lee Schmidt and Beverly Hiatt. From the Lucky Ladies flight winners were: 1st place Sharon Bisping, Diane Dodd and Catherine Thiele; 2nd place Kandi Roy, Kathy Moody and Dee Waggoner; 3rd place Ann Brooks, Shirley Gray and Quindrid Godden. Other winners were: Longest Putt Joyce Walton; Closest to the Line Ann Drumm and Closest to the Pin Pat Tillapaugh.

The event committee (Nancy Hoppe, Gail Phillips, Sharon Paxson, Shirley Gray and Dee Waggoner) thanked the participants from all the organizations; Joel Jaress and his staff for their assistance in planning and staging; scorers Bill Gray and Bill Hoppe; and finally, Epi Torres and her staff for the delicious luncheon and wonderful service.

So, as golf events go, it was a little different, a little wacky, a little whimsical, but totally enjoyable, proving once again that Girls Just Want to Have Fun!
