Holiday greetings. As 2013 comes to a close, I find myself in reflection of my accomplishments of the past and the travel memories that I have helped to create this year. As we travel into 2014 together, something to be mindful of is the meaning of the word travel. Webster’s Dictionary describes the word as making a journey, and journeying off to a new adventure is one of the best ways to learn something new about you! Make it a goal to experience something fresh in 2014, whether it is a foreign destination you’ve longed to visit or someplace right here in your own backyard.

I am hopeful that you take the time to enjoy the gift of travel to see where your exploratory spirit delivers you.

Wishing you a joyous holiday season, Crystal.

Dear Crystal:

Looking for holiday gift ideas to surprise my sister who is always difficult to shop for; any suggestions for gifting the perfect holiday travel gift?

Signed, Barbara

Dear Barbara:

One of the timeless rules of gift giving is to give something that you would like to receive. The gift of travel certainly meets this standard. Travel is a gift that also provides wonderful flexibility; you can purchase an entire vacation for someone, or simply give a travel gift certificate in the amount that works for your budget. The gift of travel also provides, quite literally, a world of options. You can have fun choosing a destination that suits the interests and preferences of the recipient.

Here are just a few ideas for consideration.

For a relative who loves to be pampered, a trip to a resort with a full service spa.

For a golfer: A trip to a golf resort, including a lesson from the pro.

For a romantic couple: A stay at a fabulous bed and breakfast inn.

For a fan of the performing arts: A weekend to a major city, complete with theatre tickets.

For a genealogy buff: A trip to the land of their ancestors.

These are just a few ideas to assist the planning process. I would suggest that you talk with a travel professional to find out more about giving the gift of travel. Just having this conversation could accomplish most of your holiday shopping. For additional information, planning assistance and package rates, please feel free to contact me directly.

Best of luck to you this holiday season with finding the ultimate gift of adventure.
